Chairman, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam  Limited, Subhash Kumar said that 300 MW Lakhwad Project would begin from the  month of August. Mr. Kumar, on Friday, had a detailed discussion with  Secretary, Union Water Resources Ministry, Dhruv Vijay in this regard. The  Union Secretary has assured to clear all approvals by July 15.
         Mr.  Kumar said that 33 percent of work of Rs. 3,000 crore Lakhwad Project was  complete. He said that 330 million cubic litre water would be collected in the  reservoir out of which 165 million cubic litre water would be available for Delhi for drinking  purpose and another 165 mcl for irrigation purpose in Uttarakhand. The Union  Secretary describing the Project very important said that the project would be  instrumental in resolving water scarcity problem in Delhi. Mr. Kumar also had telephonic  conversation with the Chief Secretary of Delhi Government. The Union Secretary  directed Chief Secretaries of Delhi  and Uttarakhand Governments and the Chairman of UJVNL to hold immediate  meeting.    Kumar said that as soon as the  approvals would be received, the works on project would begin by August 2012.  Previously, the work was proposed to begin in December 2012. It may be noted  that Mr. Kumar, in a bid to get the approval of the project, is presently in Delhi to discuss the matter  with high level officers.
