New Delhi:(Page3 News Network)-The Union Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma has reviewed the performance of NMDC Limited, a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Steel here today. The Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Shri D.R.S. Chaudhary was also present on the occasion. Shri C.S. Verma, CMD (Incharge), NMDC briefed the Minister about the performance of the Company. The Minister expressed satisfaction over the performance of the company in the first quarter of 2011-12. He advised NMDC to increase its pace of project completion and finish them as per schedule.
During the first Quarter of the financial year, the company’s production of iron ore was 6.82 million tonnes as compared to 6.07 million tonnes during previous year showing a growth of about 12%. Production during the first half of 2012-13 was 12.24 million tonnes as compared to 13.15 million tonnes during the previous year. The production was impacted due to heavy rainfall during the July to September period.
The company carried forward with its diversification plans during the review period. The company awarded almost all the major packages for the 3 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant at Nagarnar within a short span of time. It has also started work for the blast furnace, raw material handling system and coke ovens.
NMDC embarked upon expansion and diversification plans in India and abroad and is completing projects like 1.2 MTPA Pellet Plant in Donimalai, development of Deposit-11B Mine in Bailadila Sector, Chhattisgarh and Kumaraswamy Mine in Karnataka.
The company is also developing process flow sheet for upgrading low grade iron ores such as BHJ from 41.5% Fe to 64% Fe, based on which the company is setting up a beneficiation plant at Donimalai, Karnataka.
